Cheshire Street is a portrait photography project by Alberto Romano capturing the diverse characters of each independent shop owner on this eclectic street in 2022. This series of photographs highlights the unique nature of the businesses on this small street just off Brick Lane. Cheshire Street has had various names in its history, such as Hare Street, and today forms part of Brick Lane Market on Sundays. The Cheshire Street part of the market is home to various Bric A Brac stalls; prior to the area becoming popular with artists, the market was a source of basic items (clothes, toys etc.) for working class people from the East End. The project showcases the faces (owners) of these shops in this vibrant and unique street by portraying them inside their work space.
